Berrow travelled to Yeovil for this fixture, cautiously aware that Pen Mill have hit some recent form. The first 15 minutes proved very difficult with the home side being more than competitive and very physical, the girls knew they were in for a rough day.
With Keira being out injured Holly had to step in to deputise on the on the left wing, it wasn't long before she worked some magic to cut inside and cross for Evie to slot away a rare left foot finish, 0-1. This settled the early nerves and Berrow started to dominate possession, especially in the midfield with Tilly breaking up any Pen Mill attacks and Grace doing what Grace does, and marking their danger girl out of the game. Evie was dominate, winning numerous headers and making several mazey runs, often bringing Holly and Kayleigh into the game.
It was a Penalty that gave Berrow their 2nd goal, with Halle coolly slotting away after a defensive handball. Within a minute, Halle got her 2nd to make it 0-3, again with some great skill and a calm finish. Pen Mill were shell shocked and offered little resistance leading up to half time. Halle became supplier with a deep cross met by the head of Evie for her 2nd goal, Just 2 minutes before the break Evie returned the favour slotting Halle in to complete her hat trick. Holly and Kayleigh were a constant threat out wide, and bang on half time the score became 0-6 when a teasing cross from Kayleigh, was met by Mia who's shot which was turned into their own net but the defender.
Rose in goal, handled everything with ease when it did come her way, and her impressive kicking is always a threat. Poppy marshalled her defence like she always does and mopped up any danger, which was kept to a minimum from her defensive team of Yasmin, Ebony and Brooke, who is starting to return to fitness and look like the player that has been strong for the team in the past.
The second half also saw the introduction of Pixie and Ivy who slotted in, and continued the good work from the first half. The away team became more physical and became increasingly frustrated often giving fouls away but the Berrow Girls kept the composure and just got on with the job in hand. The score became 0-7 when Holly again, cut in from the left side, onto her right foot to slot the ball into the far post. Another own goal made it 0-8, but the game was complete when the hard working Mia got her chance and made no mistake taking the score to 0-9. With the score as it was, plenty of minutes were given to players who have missed out recently, so it was a good day at the office for all involved.
Having a deep squad is really helping the team this season, and it was Evie, making her 5th appearance, who took the joint 'Girls of the Game' award for her dominant midfield performance. winning countess headers and popping up with 2 goals. Hat trick hero Halle shared the accolade, obviously her goals are great but her link up play, set pieces and assists are just as crucial in the teams success. Halle moves on to 26 goals for the season which is a fantastic achievement in itself.
Berrow have now gone 10 games unbeaten and sit proudly at the top of the league, with 3 tough games to go, but anything is possible.
Next up is the biggest game of the season, home to 2nd place Wellington, who are the only team to beat Berrow this season.
